Ballroom Dancing on The Plaza

Tonight is ballroom dancing on the plaza. Little Miss Lady will be dancing with her "boyfriend" Ty, whose mom will be leading the festivities. Ever seen the documentary "Mad Hot Ballroom"?It's a program here in New York City where ballroom dance teachers go into the public schools and teach 5th graders how to ballroom dance. My son did it when he was in grade school and he thrived in the program. At the end of the season every school that participates in the program pick their top 10 dancers to compete. The finals are held in The Winter Garden in the financial district and the winners get a scholarship to continue to dance...classes held on Saturdays.
My son's school won a medal and he continued to dance for a little more than a year, until basketball took over and he gave it up. But little Miss Lady loved going to class with her big brother. Ty's Mom, a former Rockette, was intrigued by the program and now she works for them teaching in the schools. Tonight will be a demonstration, and a little dancing, and my little sweetie will be doing the salsa...or is it the merengue? Should be lots of fun.

Little Miss Lady

Well, yesterday she lost her first top front tooth. She pulled it out while at summer camp here on the plaza. She wanted it out before they went swimming, because she was afraid to lose it in the pool. She looks a bit like Nanny McPhee now because the other top front tooth is really loose as well and is sticking out. Bless her heart!
Teen son left yesterday for his vacation with his best friend and his family. They are in Ft. Lauderdale and Key West. He was really looking forward to it. Happy that he can have such a fun experience.
What are you doing this week-end? Make it a good one.

Summer Perfection

The ear piercing went well and she is so happy to have them done. She was a trouper! They didn't bleed or anything and she looks so grown up with them...that is until she smiles and her baby teeth, her top ones, that have a huge space between them, and are poking out they are so loose, give her away. She's my beautiful little girl. Earrings aglow and happy heart to match.
The weather today in New York City is perfect. Nice breeze, unbelievable blue sky, puffy white clouds. I'm heading out to the playground now...with my sangria in a tippy cup! Don't tell.

The Beauty of Summer

Summer in the city. Son is working this week at the pre-school in our building at their camp. He is happy to have something to wake up for. Money to be made. Fun to be had. Little girl is loving her first year in the camp that our building provides for our 7-13 year olds. Tomorrow is trip day, and instead of going to the Yankee game she and I are going to get her ears pierced as her birthday present from me. Today I bought all the peroxide and alcohol and cotton balls that I think she will need. I'm looking forward to sleeping in and then going to the mall for her piercing!
Last night on the plaza, as they do many times over the summer, we had a show. Soul music provided by Bobby Harden. What a great night of music and amazing talent. Folks, it's been hot here in the Big Apple lately, but that didn't stop our community from turning out for one of the most entertaining evenings ever provided by Manhattan Plaza. Bobby, you are amazing! I love you and your beautiful wife, Pia. And thanks for the privilege of letting me care for your beautiful girls, Camilla and Olivia. Blessings to all!

Summertime Follies

Started inviting some girlfriends to join me this Saturday at 5pm for margaritas and appetizers at FIREHOUSE on the Upper West Side. I turn 50 on Sunday and since my children will be at their Dad's this week-end I thought I should celebrate my fabulousity. I bid on and won the Firehouse certificate at my son's school auction so I thought this would be "the" opportunity to use it. I'm looking forward to it.
So busy I haven't really had time to keep up with the blog world. I'm outside so much this time of year I don't get to the computer as often. Thanks for your comments for my sweetie girl's birthday.

Fireworks

Wonderful evening last night. After more than 20 summers here in the city last night for the first time I got to see the Macy's 4th of July fireworks. Our wonderful friends invited us to their family's annual party on the Eastside. The party is held on this spacious rooftop terrace...the food, drinks and spectacular display were amazing! It was really a blast...no pun intended.
This morning my little sweet angel girl went to her first day at summer camp here "at the plaza". It was/is raining cats and dogs today so that will put a damper...again, no pun intended, on the wiffle ball and other outdoor activities. My first client arrives in minutes.
This Saturday is my girl's 7th birthday party..her actual birthday is Sunday the 9th. So I have a lot of things to do to get ready for it. Will make the cake tomorrow.
What did you do for the 4th?
